POEM POWER (#4)

Saturday night
Is always so fun
Unless you're a Preacher
Who's sermon's not done.

Aliens and Cowboys?
Or Bibles and Pews?
Another decision,
That's so hard to choose.

Should I stay in
And study and pray?
Or go into town
Buy Goobers and play?

Which do I pick?
What should I do?
A movie or Church?
Popcorn or Ruth?

Read my concordance
Thought of Harrison Ford
Wasn't he good
Way back in Star Wars?

Then out of the blue
My brain stops hurtin'.
A movie illustration
Might pep up my sermon.

So I pack up my Bible
Assured I can swing it.
I'll go out tonight
Tomorrow I'll wing it.

As together we stand and sing.

POEM POWER #3 - "THE SEASONS"

The colors of the falling leaves,
Remind us one and all,
How Adam and his good wife Eve,
Dinged us with "The Fall".

Winter's cold and crunchy snow,
It's dark and lonely days,
Bring to mind the poor man Job, God's chip for gambling ways.

Back to life the birds and bees, The blooming of the Spring,
With alergies to choke and sneeze,
Hey look!  Your head can ring!

Then blinding, never-ending heat,
Means the days of Summer,
An illustration from above,
Hell will be a bummer.

Behold the seasons of the year, Each with it's special truth
Straighten up and listen here, Repent or get the boot.

Powerful words.

Powerful ryhme scheme.

Weird (but effective) allergy line.

POEM POWER #2 - Sermon Coffee

When the Lord gives you a poem, you are compelled to share it with the world.

And even when he DOESN'T give you one, if you THINK of one and haven't figured out your BlermonTM for that day - you ALSO have to share it.  So...here it is:

SUNDAY MORNING
by BP
It's Sunday morning once again
The Preacher sits without a friend
Another sermon not quite done
He tries and tries but nothing comes
Into the bag of tricks he goes
Concordance, Bible, cup of Joe
"What will I preach?  I'd like to know!"
"What will I preach? To church I go."

Not a GREAT poem.  But not a great cup of Joe either.  Can't have one without the other in my book.

The point is this: Sermon preparation is so important.

But so is seeing a midnight showing of "Super 8" last night with Gidget.

It SEEMED like a good idea at the time.  This morning, I realized it was not.  Why?  Because I don't have a sermon.

Sigh.  Priority setting has never been my strong suit.

I really cannot calculate just how many Preachers reading this right now are in my same exact position. Don't be surprised if this morning YOUR Preacher uses a poem very similar to the one I just wrote in this BlermonTM this morning.  By similar, I mean the exact same poem.

I am a regular victim of Preacher Plagiarism.  It is a tragic problem sweeping the country, and one I hope to somehow cash in on soon.  It happens.

Annnnnd SCENE!

OK, I'm tried of typing now, so that oughtta do it.  Not bad, huh?  I think this BlermonTM had a little something for everyone in it today: a poem, a conspiracy theory, a picture of whatever THIS is...

And, of course  a puppy lookin' at a gopher thingy.

I tell ya, this blog does it all.

Now if I just had a sermon idea for this morning.

Stay tuned.  Don't steal my stuff.

As together we stand and sing.

STAND AND PREACH!

I'm feeling poem-y.  You've been warned.

STAND AND PREACH!
by BP, circa this morning

Sunday's it, the day you sit
A tray of matzos passes
A quick Google search, says "You're in church,"
The Fancy call it "Mass-es".

The difference true, with me and you
The Preacher and Preach-ees
"Stuck" is you, in a pew
While I stretch my preaching knee-knees.

Some say it's wrong, to play ping pong
While preaching the Good News
I say its wrong to wear a thong
While sitting on new pews.

So when I teach, I'll STAND and preach
While you just SIT and fidget
I don't mind, I take my time
And wink at my wife Gidget.

As together we stand and sing.

I FEEL LIKE A SERMON BUT LOOK LIKE A PREACHER

Sometimes I wake up so filled with creative preaching power I have no choice but to immediately unload it onto an unsuspecting world.  THIS is one of those mornings.  And YOU are that world.  I wish I was you right now, and could experience what you are about to experience.  You're so lucky.  I, on the other hand...am but a simple Preacher/servant...with more talent than I know what to do with.  Strap in.

S is for the SONGS before it

E is ESTHER, hard to find

R, RICCOLA on my pulpit

M is MINISTER, hard to rhyme

O, I OFFER the invitation

N, though NO ONE'S dunked this time

Y?  We may never really know.  I blame them, the sermon's fine.

SERMONY, SERMONY in my bones
I feel SERMONY rain or shine
SERMONY, SERMONY, where's my phone?
I feel SERMONY all the time.

Powerful Poem.

Powerful...blah blah blah.  Whatever.

As together we stand and sing.

The Power of Poetry #1

Sunday morning, the paper comes
A cup of coffee, the crossword’s done
No work, no school, no silly tests
So yawn and fart, and scratch and rest
Watch some sports, and eat some candy
Play some X-box in your jammies
“Behold the blue bird on her perch!”
Quit messin’ around and get to CHURCH!
